Wife of Gbenga Daniel promises to pursue justice over the Ogun government’s demolition of her N1 billion complex.
Mrs Olufunke Daniel, the wife of a former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, has reacted to the demolition of her complex by the state government.
GISTS VILLA reported earlier that the demolition of the N1 billion five-story building began around 3 a.m. on Sunday.
The demolition was carried out by some government officials and armed security agents.
It was gathered that the state government approved the demolition of the building due to the absence of parking space, a muster point, and inadequate airspace.
Reacting to the incident through her lawyer, Adeyinka Kotoye, SAN, of Page Law Office, Mrs Daniel confirmed that agents of the Ogun State government in the early hours of Sunday demolished her building, DATKEM Plaza, in Ijebu-Ode.
The lawyer said, “We were shocked and miffed that the Ogun State government ignored court papers served on its agents on Thursday, September 7, asking them to stop all actions on the building.”
According to the statement, the Ogun State Planning and Development Authority had on August 1 “without any prior notice”.
A quit notice was served on the building on August 31 by the government, “asking the owner to vacate the premises within three days”.
Mrs Daniel explained that the management of the complex had on August 2 applied for unsealing and regularization of the building, paying the mandatory fee of N500,000 to the the state government.
“However, we were shocked and astonished that the Ogun State government ignored the ongoing legal process and went ahead to demolish the complex in the early hours of Sunday. We want to believe the State Attorney General’s advice was ignored on this matter,” the statement said.
Stressing that she would continue to seek redress in the courts, Mrs Daniel said she had “suffered unimaginable and huge losses as a result of this illegal demolition”.
The former First Lady added, “I want to believe that the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, was not informed of this illegality,” and expresed confidence that the government could not have engaged in executive recklessness.
She, however, declared, “We will continue to fight for justice.”
