The Commissioner for Information, Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said the state government plans to provide long-term solutions to the hardship people are facing due to fuel subsidy removal by the Federal government.
Fielding questions from correspondents in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, the commissioner explained that Governor Umo Eno, has partnered with relevant bodies such as a transport company, Innoson Motors, which would provide enough vehicles to crash the transportation fare in the state.
He added that Gov Eno has promised to provide adequate funding to every ministry to ensure the implementation of their projects.
According to him, “No palliative is sustainable, we need to find long term solutions to the effects of subsidy removal. When you use palliative measures to solve a long-term problem, you only scratch the surface.
Palliatives, as much as they are desirable, are quick fixes that may, even in the short term, create more problems, therefore, the governor is thinking of providing long term solutions. When you have power sufficiency, you won’t need to buy fuel for your generator. Food sufficiency is the long term solution to the problem.
“For an effective public transportation system, all the government will do is reduce the cost of transportation so that any person who enters mass transit will at least return some money to the people.
Meanwhile, the governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has confirmed that the federal government has released some palliatives to states, which Akwa Ibom will soon take delivery of, adding that the state government is constituting a palliative committee to ensure efficient distribution.
