Champions League: Xavi explains why Barcelona fell to Shakhtar Donetsk

Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has explained why his team lost 1-0 against Shakhtar Donetsk in Tuesday’s Champions League tie.

Xavi watched as a first-half goal from Danylo Sikan gave Shakhtar Donetsk the victory over Barcelona at the Volksparkstadion.

Xavi’s side only managed one shot on target as compared to Shakhtar Donetsk’s four.

Reacting after the game, Xavi said that Barcelona did not play a good game against the host.

According to him, his team made a big mistake against Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Spaniard told the media (h/t BarcaBlaugranes): “We have not played a good game. Nothing has gone as planned.

“We wanted to confirm the classification, but it is a clear step backwards. The Champions League demands the highest level, but we have not found it. We are angry.

“We could not fail, and we have failed. It’s a big mistake on our part.”

Barcelona is still top of Group H with nine points from four matches.
